Take a walk up the hills behind Sanderson and enjoy great views of the town and surrounding area and mountains. The Cactus Capitol Hiking Trail begins near Bicentennial Park, winds through Hominy and Javelina Hills, around the Sanderson High School football and track fields, and ends at a spot near Highway 90 and Wilson Streets at the base of Javelina Hill.

Located just west of the Courthouse, Bicentennial Park contains picnic tables and playground equipment, free to the public.  The complex also includes the county swimming pool, open Tuesday-Saturday 12-6 p.m. (Closed on Mondays) during the summer from May to August, and the newly completed open-air pavilion, available for any occasion.

A unique art gallery painted on monoliths of local limestone, East Gate Park celebrates the history and icons of Terrell County.  From the time pre-dating Native American culture to the time of cowboys and railroads, the artwork of East Gate Park, located on Highway 90 near the eastern entrance to Sanderson, Texas, is a marvelous exposition of our history and a must-see to add to your local travel itinerary.

The people of Sanderson have always served their country well.  When duty called the citizens of Terrell County answered, some offering the ultimate sacrifice.  We have honored the patriotism of our men and women and especially those that gave their lives,  in a group of memorials located on the Courthouse square.  Gazing down over the largest memorial is the ancient iron eagle that was once part of the original Courthouse facade, recently rescued and placed in a position of honor as the icon of Terrell County's spirit.  Come visit and share our pride.

Terrell County is proud to possess a first-class library.  The library is a full-service institution with a wide range of books, research materials, videos, DVDs, and public-access internet computers.  Through its area associations with the Texas library system, almost any material is available. The library also regularly hosts reading programs for the children of our community.  It is also an excellent place to begin your research on all things Terrell County.   The library offers hours that are convenient to the public,  so...come visit us soon!
