Big Bend Open Road Race LogoThe race takes place on US Highway 285 South from Fort Stockton to Sanderson and back (about 59.0 miles each way - or 118.0 miles).

All the fun and excitement begins in Sanderson on the morning of Wednesday, April 21, 2004. Registration, technical inspections and rookie school all take place from 8 a.m. at the Terrell County Courthouse and Square. From 1 p.m. on Highway 90, rookie practice takes place. Course workers are always welcome to help out for this.

Thursday the fun continues, though this day the practice takes place from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., breaking for an hour for lunch at 12 noon. The Sanderson Chamber of Commerce will host a Welcome Party for the racers at 5 p.m. at Bi-Centennial Park. All Terrell County residents are most welcome to attend. For course workers, there will be a Course Worker Safety Meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Court House on the second floor.

Saturday, April 24, 2004, is the day of the race. All course workers are to meet at the Downie Arena at 6 a.m. for their gate assignments. Once in place, the course workers get the best views of the race. For those who are not course workers, the race can be viewed from the Downie Arena, north on Highway 285.
