RIO GRANDE-PECOS RIVER SOIL & WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT #237

The Rio Grande-Pecos River Soil & Water Conservation District #237 was established in 1944 and contains 1,823,538 acres. It is divided into five subdivisions with five directors, one from each zone, elected every four years. Portions of Pecos, Brewster and Terrell Counties lie within the district boundaries.

The entire district is mostly dedicated to range, wildlife and recreation land, except for a few acres of irrigated pastureland along the Pecos River and Independence Creek.

The Terrell County Water Control and Improvement District is responsible for delivering water to the people of Sanderson and in preserving and protecting the water sources.
